Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The police have registered a murder case in the deaths of three members of the same family in Kolkata's Tangra area. Initially, the incident was believed to be a case of suicide, but after examining the crime scene and discovering injury marks on the bodies, the police suspected that it might be a premeditated murder. Suspicion has fallen on two sons of the family—Pranay and Prasun Dey—who were injured in a road accident shortly after the incident. A murder case was officially registered late at night.
On Wednesday morning, the bodies of two women and a minor girl were found in two separate rooms of the house. The elder daughter-in-law, Sudeshna Dey, had deep cut marks on her wrist, while the younger daughter-in-law, Romi Dey, had injuries on her neck. The deceased minor girl also had injury marks on her body. The police did not find any poisonous substance or suicide note at the scene, which raised further doubts about the suicide claim.
A few hours after the incident, a car crashed into a metro pillar in the Garfa area. Pranay and Prasun Dey, who were in the car, sustained injuries, while Pranay's son, Pratip Dey, narrowly escaped unhurt. The two brothers claimed that their family was drowning in debt, which led them to take the extreme step of suicide. However, the police suspect that the car accident might have been staged to divert attention from the actual crime.
The father of the deceased Sudeshna Dey filed a written complaint with the police, alleging that his daughter was murdered. Based on his complaint, the police registered a murder case against an unidentified person. Investigating officers have noted several inconsistencies in the statements given by the two brothers. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
